mystery and crime fiction novels written by calder garret, police procedurals set in outback western australia

Meet Calder Garret:

Screenwriter and prolific author of mystery and crime fiction, Calder Garret, was born to a family of law enforcement. His father was a Prison Officer and his mother worked for the Western Australian Police. Together, the family watched every crime fiction series their TV could pump out, so it was inevitable that Calder would one day write crime fiction.

His first series, The Danny Arbor Investigations is a set of four hard-boiled police procedurals set in a remote town in rural Western Australia. It follows the steep learning curve of young Probationary Constable Danny Arbor. During his first week on the job, Arbor discovers the body of the town newsagent  on the pavement outside his shop. Suddenly feeling out of his depth, Arbor must do what he can to prove his worth and solve a crime that nobody else seems to care about.

Following the success of this series, Calder relaxed into writing a collection of cosy mystery short stories. Gentle and warm-hearted, and also set in the Australian outback, Kylie Teale Investigates revolves around the day-to-day life of Constable Kylie Teale. She’s a rough diamond with a heart of gold and a fierce desire to protect her tiny community.

Monster in the Mist is a medieval mystery. Set in the depths of the Dark Ages, in the heart of what is now modern-day Scotland, this novella depicts a land of fierce warriors and uncommon superstitions. Into this wild and dangerous country comes a band of traveling monks intent on spreading the Word of their Lord to the local people. But when two of the young monks find themselves separated from the rest of their brethren, they endure the most difficult quest while confronting the darkness in their own souls.
